Our AMA: (1) reaffirms its policy calling for the clinical acceptability of and compensation for specific medical procedures to be determined by professional peers and encouraging third parties to seek consultation from the profession prior to reimbursement decisions; and (2) will continue through its currently established mechanisms to provide for consultation and involvement by medical specialty organizations as appropriate.
